The national media, the dean, and certain faculty members will all be there.
This is the time for PHR to shine.

EVERYONE

is welcome to come to the ceremony!
**If you would like to participate in the ceremony, please let us know.**
Other clubs will also be there to present their awards to their sponsored patients as well.

Patrick Breedy Total Award: $5000

Patrick will now be able to go to St. Lucia to get his much needed shunt put in. He is currently at PMH right now getting dialysis through his neck. This procedure will allow Patrick to go back to a more normal lifestyle and significantly improve his quality of life. Both him and his mother are very appreciative that we are able to help him, especially since he’s been trying to get this procedure done for the past few months with no luck.

Shana Paul Total Award $5000

Shana has just been recently released from PMH. She was admitted last week for bouts of unconsciousness. She currently has a debt to PMH of over $7000 EC. The $5000 will go towards Shana’s next semester’s worth of dialysis treatment costs and medications (which she is currently NOT taking bc she cannot afford them). The difference will be used by Dr Sharma to negotiate with the Minister to get Shana’s debt completely resolved with PMH. Shana wanted us to personally thank you (PHR!!!) for helping her. She is very very grateful.

Summary: A 90-minute feature-length documentary about the life of Robert Eads, a 52-year-old female to male transsexual who lives in the back hills of Georgia. “A hillbilly and proud of it,” he cuts a striking figure: sharp-tongued, bearded, tobacco pipe in hand. Robert passes so well as a male that the local Klu Klux Klan tried to recruit him to become a member.

Though his home is nestled among tranquil hills dotted with hay bales, Robert confronts a world as hostile to him as if he were an African American in the ante-bellum South. He was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, then turned away by more than two dozen doctors who feared that taking on a transgendered patient might harm their practice.

SOUTHERN COMFORT follows the final year of Robert Eads’ life. Beginning in spring, he falls deeply in love with Lola, a male-to-female. That summer, his mother and father drive ten hours to visit their “lost daughter,” a trip they know may be their last. His final dream is to make it to the Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta, the nation’s preeminent transgender gathering. Beating the odds, he addresses a crowd of 500 and takes Lola to “The prom that never was.”

The voices in SOUTHERN COMFORT are not only rarely heard, but also are commonly thought to be non-existent. A rare blend of humor, romance, and tragedy, SOUTHERN COMFORT is the first non-fiction film to intimately tell a trans-to-trans love story, set against a disturbing tale of gender bias as it unfolds before the camera.”

See you all there… Bring your friends!

Hello!
Hope everyone is having good weekends.
This e-mail is to finalize the meeting time. It will be this Wednesday, Oct. 1st, at 12:30PM. As I stated earlier it should last maximum 15 minutes. I don’t want to make it at 12:00 so that I can allow students at the annex time to make it to the meeting. Also hopefully people will find enough time to pick up lunch and bring it with them if they want.
The Meeting will be in classroom 2B @12:30PM.

I will be prepared on Wed. for individuals who want to sign up on the same day every week. For those individuals who have been e-mailing me asking if they could volunteer on different days each week, that will be okay. But if you who would like to change your schedule from week to week, I think it might be easier for you to e-mail me your preferred dates.

Please do not sign up until you are fairly certain you will be doing it. That way we won’t leave any kids hanging. I would like to turn in a finalized list the Tuesday after the mini to the teacher at the CALLS center. Therefore, I would prefer that schedule changes be made before that day. Obviously I know that things happen and no schedule can be set in stone, however, I want it to be as accurate a possible.

Remember that the sessions can be from 1-2PM on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.

Lastly, I wanted to tell all of you that there will be no tutoring sessions held the week before the Mini examinations. So if you e-mail me your preferred dates, please do not include those.

I will try my best to answer any questions on Wed. and explain everything. If you cannot come, do not fret. Just send me an e-mail letting me know you are still interested.
Thanks,
