    Officers Needed for Next Semester

    Dear Prospective Officers,

I want to first thank all of you who have taken the time to read this letter and support the cause of Human Rights on this campus and in the greater world. Medical School is inherently time-consuming and labor intensive. Anyone who volunteers such a commodity should expect that it will not be in vain. At Ross PHR, I am proud to say that we as an organization are having an undeniable impact in the lives of individuals across the globe. From raising over EC6,000 for victims of rape in the Congo, to writing a check for EC2,000 to a Dominica center for adult training, Ross PHR is making a difference. The best news of all is that this is just the beginning! This semester we launched our very own website www.rossphr.org, presented the campus with an inside look into a day in the life of a physician in war-torn Baghdad, and sent our volunteers to tutor children at the Portsmouth library.

As this semester closes and we prepare for the next, we also must prepare for the needs of this organization. Now perhaps more than ever, Ross PHR needs talented, organized, and most importantly committed individuals from diverse backgrounds to step-up into leadership positions for the upcoming semesters. Below is a diagram that explains the proposed structure for Ross PHR:

    Org Chart

Each of our projects will be grouped according to their mission. That particular group, will have a coordinator that is responsible for ensuring that the projects are running smoothly and that members are being incorporated. Each Group Coordinator, will also be assigned a incoming 1st semester “Representative” to assist with the organization of the group. There will be a total 4 Group Coordinators that will also have a seat on the Executive Board (E-Board). Additionally, there will be 2 Secretaries, a Treasurer and a President that will also have a seat on the E-Board for a total of 8 individuals who will sit on the E-Board. Ideally, the Group Coordinator position would be assumed by a 2nd semester student, and upon completion of one semester of that role would be eligible for positions such as Secretary, Treasurer, or President. However, considering that this will be the first semester that we will be implementing such an organizational scheme, all positions are considered “open.” Particularly promising students may be selected to “train” in this next semester for leadership roles in the following semester, thus ensuring continuity. Below is a brief description of the duties of each of the officer positions:
    Group Coordinator (4 Positions):
Group Coordinators are responsible for ensuring that each individual project within their specific group is functional. This includes, presenting the E-Board with progress updates, working directly with the 1st semester representative, assigning duties, anticipating complications, proposing novel projects, and most importantly encouraging and enabling members to become involved in the projects.
    Secretary (2 Positions):
    1. “eSecretary” will be responsible for the maintenance of the organizations’ website, photography, email-lists, and communication.
    2. “tSecretary” will be responsible for E-Board minutes, fundraising, updating the campus awareness board, and distribution.
    Treasurer (1 Position):
The Treasurer will be responsible for ensuring that the all funding is accounted for, distributed as decided, and is in accordance with the rules set forth by the Ross SGA. The Treasurer will also be responsible for working directly with SGA to allocate funding describe fundraising plans.
    President (1 Position):
The President acts as a liaison between the local organization, the faculty sponsor and the international organization. Duties include appointing meeting times and agendas for the general body and E-Board, examining the progress of each of the groups and projects, organizing officer elections, and ensuring a seamless transition from one semester to the next.

These descriptions are by no means mean to be exhaustive. However, they are indicative of the kind of duties that officers will be expected to perform. If you are interested in learning more or applying please send a short bio of your background and why and how you want to get involved to the following address nickolasfouladpour@rossmed.edu.dm

Thank you, and all the best on all of your examinations this semester!

    Sincerely,

    Nickolas Fouladpour
